Company Profile
The Lagos Public Interest Law Partnership (LPILP) was launched on November 8, 2012, by His Excellency, Governor Babatunde R. Fashola. This initiative aims to enhance access to justice for indigent, disadvantaged, and marginalized residents of the community. By partnering with private NGOs and law firms, the LPILP provides pro bono legal services to those in need, ensuring that every citizen has the right to legal representation, regardless of their financial status.
Our vision is to create a community where all individuals can access justice. The LPILP operates as a collaborative project that addresses various legal needs, including criminal, civil, and administrative matters. With the support of organizations like the Global Network for Public Interest Law (PILnet) and the Justice Research Institute (JRI), we have established high standards for service delivery, ensuring that those receiving pro bono assistance benefit from the same quality as paying clients.
Since its inception, the LPILP has made significant strides, with 174 law firms and 43 NGOs committed to providing legal services. We have screened and transferred 355 pro bono cases and successfully represented over 1,038 indigent individuals, including participation in public interest class action lawsuits. Our goal is to develop a sustainable model for legal service delivery that can be replicated across other states, furthering our mission to secure justice for all.
